Delap & Waller were appointed under the Works Framework to carry out the Mechanical and Electrical Installations to comply with current day regulations and to the clients specification.

The works included the introduction of a natural ventilation scheme to the central atrium. Dedicated supply ventilation system via a centralised plenum duct fed from two air handling units, a dedicated specialist laboratory exhaust system comprising of fume cupboards and hoods. All exhausts from the laboratories are linked into a central exhaust plenum via two Strobic Fans.

Heat recovery is provided within the building by a set of heat exchangers fed from a recovery coil within the primary exhaust plenum to the strobic fans. A glycol heat recovery loop is taken from these heat exchangers to feed heater batteries within the main supply air handling plant. Should the level of reclaimed heat from the exhaust system not match the supply air set point the shortfall is met by the boiler plant

The project also involved piped process gases within the laboratory spaces, these namely being nitrogen, natural gas and compressed air.

The building was also fitted with PIR controlled lighting systems within each area which can be overridden by the lecturer within each area to dim up/down depending on what activity is been carried out in each space.
