Hollyhill Library was planned as a new state of the art library facility serving some,600 households in the northwestern suburbs of Cork City, specifically the Hollyhill/Knocknaheeny area, Gurranebraher/Churchfield, Sunday’s Well, Clogheen and the north western environs of the city.

The €4.1M development was jointly funded by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government and Cork City Council with the design headed up by the councils Architecture department, and supported by Delap and Waller.  The project consists of a reception area, double height atria, book stacks and shelving spaces, workstations, comfort facilities, staff facilities, community room and meeting areas and rooms. It offers library services to the general public along with specialist exhibition facilities when required.

The building also incorporates an attractive hard landscaped plaza that encourages and invites people into the general vicinity, and ultimately the library.

The Mechanical Services comprised;

  • Site services; incoming gas supply
  • Heating centre including 3No. air source heat pumps and back up gas fired boiler
  • Intelligent building management system
  • Soils and wastes
  • Water services
  • Space heating including underfloor heating and low temperature, high efficiency radiators
  • Ventilation and air conditioning services including heat recovery ventilation, and ICT comms room cooling
  • Fire protective services

The Electrical Services comprised;

  • Electrical site services; incoming ESB, Eircom and Council ICT services supplies
  • Distribution services including switchgear, cabling and primary containment services
  • General and small power services
  • Communications services including council ICT fibre services and Cat 6 horizontal distribution
  • Audio visual systems
  • EAWM services
  • Vertical transportation including 1No. 8-person 630 kg lift
  • Security services including access control and intercom services, intruder alarm and CCTV services.
  • Fire protective services
  • Protective services including a EN 62305 system
