The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE), announced the winners of the second ACE Engineering Excellence Awards at a packed gala dinner event at the Victoria Park Plaza hotel in London on Wednesday 13 May 2009. Hosted by broadcaster and journalist Nicky Campbell, the awards showcased consultancy and engineering firms who had demonstrated a high degree of achievement, value and engineering excellence over the last 12 months.
Northern Ireland's newest museum, arts and civic centre already the winner of a Civic Trust Award combined the refurbishment of the former town hall (a grade II listed building) with the development of adjacent land into a state of the art venue, incorporating a new regional museum for mid Antrim with conference, arts and concert facilities.
The judges said "this refurbishment and substantial extension of a listed building to create a new civic space has been accomplished in an exemplary fashion and with very good coordination with the client. The judges were also very impressed with the learning that has been taken forward to other projects"
